Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is an ancient healing practice that utilises pressure-point massage techniques to restore balance in the body. It is effective in reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and enhancing overall health. Reflexology works on the theory that specific zones on the feet and hands correspond to various organs and body parts, and applying pressure to these zones can improve health in those areas through energetic pathways. Many people turn to reflexology for relaxation, and improved circulation.

About the History of Reflexology

Reflexology has its origins in the holistic traditions of ancient cultures such as Egyptian, Chinese, and Vietnamese. This wellness treatment involves specialised compression techniques applied to reflex points on the feet, which are connected to specific body parts, organs, or glands through nerve pathways. By stimulating these points, reflexology helps restore balance, reduce stress, relieve tension, and support self-healing.

Modern reflexology, pioneered by Dr. William Fitzgerald in the early 1900s, was further developed into "Zone Therapy" by Dr. Joseph Riley. Physiotherapist Eunice Ingham expanded on this work in the 1930s by mapping out the reflexes on the feet that are still used today. Reflexology, unlike other treatments, is gentle, non-invasive, and has no harmful side effects. It is a holistic approach that benefits the entire body, beyond just the feet.
