Debunking Common Skincare Myths

There’s a lot of misinformation out there when it comes to skincare. Let’s clear up a few common myths that might be holding your skin back from reaching its full potential.

Myth 1: “If it burns or tingles, it’s working.

Nope! That burning sensation doesn’t mean the product is doing something magical. It probably means your skin is irritated. While a little tingling can be normal with certain products (like acids or vitamin C), anything beyond that is a sign to stop and reassess. Skincare should be soothing, not painful.

Myth 2: “Oily skin doesn’t need moisturiser.

This one’s a biggie. Even if your skin produces a lot of oil, it can still be dehydrated. Skipping moisturizer can actually make your skin produce even more oil to compensate. The trick is to use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer that hydrates without adding excess shine.

Myth 3: “You can shrink your pores.

Sorry to break it to you, but pore size is mostly genetic. You can’t make them smaller, but you can keep them clean to make them less noticeable. Exfoliating regularly (but gently!) and using products like salicylic acid can help clear out debris from your pores.

Myth 4: “Expensive skincare is always better.

Sure, some luxury products are worth the splurge, but price doesn’t always equal quality. There are plenty of affordable skincare gems out there that work just as well, if not better, than their pricey counterparts. What matters is the ingredients, not the label.

Your pores are like a party—once they’ve reached capacity, they’re not getting any smaller. But you can help them stay less crowded by keeping them clean and hydrated. And remember, a £200 moisturiser isn’t going to magically turn you into a movie star (unfortunately!).
